How to eat persimmons 🔶
Persimmon can be eaten raw, baked, or preserved.
They come in two varietals: astringent and non-astringent.
Japanese Hachiya persimmon (acorn shaped with a point) are “suck the life out of you“ astringent when they are not ripe. When ripen, they should feel heavy and squishy, think water balloon.
Fuyus persimmon (tomato with a flat bottom) are non-astringent and can eaten unpeeled or peeled right away although we like to wait a few days before consuming.
Seasonality
Both persimmon varietals are in season from October through January.
